About StockQuester

A stock market game that started as a weekend project for my kid and turned into something much bigger.

How it started

My son kept asking me about stocks. He'd see stuff on YouTube, hear people talking about trading, and wanted to know how it all worked. Problem was, every app and website out there either assumed you already knew what a P/E ratio was, or wanted you to deposit real money before you could do anything.

So I built him something. A simple stock market game where he could buy and sell shares with fake money, see how prices moved, and learn the basics without any risk. Just a dad trying to teach his kid about the market in a way that actually made sense to him.

That was supposed to be it. A small side project. But then I started adding features. A glossary so he could look up terms he didn't understand. Quizzes to test what he'd learned. Achievements to keep him interested. Before I knew it, the "quick weekend project" had turned into a full platform with 50 companies, daily price movements, market events, analyst picks, and a whole gamification system.

What it became

StockQuester is now a virtual stock market where you trade with fake money in a market that behaves like the real thing. Prices change daily based on company performance, sector trends, and random events. Stocks can rally, crash, get halted by circuit breakers, or go through IPOs. It's not a toy. It's a proper simulation that teaches you how markets actually work.

There are tutorials that walk you through your first trade, quizzes that test your knowledge, and a glossary with 50+ trading terms explained in plain English. Two analyst characters publish daily stock picks and weekly articles with different trading philosophies, so you can see how momentum traders and value investors think differently about the same market.

And because learning is easier when it's fun, there's an XP system, achievements, daily quests, a spin wheel, leaderboards, and a social feed where you can follow other traders and see what they're up to. It keeps you coming back and actually engaging with the market instead of just reading about it.

Who it's for

I built this for my son, but it turns out loads of people want the same thing: a place to learn how trading works without putting real money on the line.

Students

Learning about finance or economics and want hands-on experience, not just theory.

Curious beginners

Interested in investing but want to practise before using real money.

Strategy testers

Want to try different trading approaches and see what works without any risk.

The important bit

StockQuester is completely free. No premium tiers, no paywalls, no "pay to unlock" nonsense. Everything on the platform is available to everyone.

It's also not financial advice. The companies on here are fictional, the prices are simulated, and nothing you see should be taken as a recommendation to buy or sell anything in real life. It's a learning tool. A really good one, I think, but still just a tool. If you want to trade with real money, do your own research and talk to a proper financial adviser.
